Yesterday was a sad day for Canada. The shocking events on Parliament Hill are a reminder that politics is not a game. It is the system by which we have chosen to govern ourselves in a peaceful manner and it really does mean something.
Yesterday was also the day when the Liberal Party chose to set Sunday, November 9 at Noon for the nomination meeting in our riding. Terrorists attacked Ottawa because they do not believe in the freedom and democracy that we cherish. In the midst of our grief, democracy continues and we have an opportunity to rise to the occasion.
Long before the nomination meeting was called – over 16 years ago – I started knocking on doors in our riding and organizing events in our community. I have connected with many of you. We have talked about your hopes and dreams and you have also challenged me to answer hard questions.
While building my law firm and creating jobs in York Region, I have always set aside time to volunteer for our community and the Liberal Party. This has included fighting to keep the Liberal Party alive after the 2011 election, leading the planting of over 10,000 trees on the Oak Ridges Moraine and raising over $100,000 for local charities.
We need a Member of Parliament who puts our community first. My commitment to you is that I will continue to work hard on your behalf, represent our riding with integrity, renew federal politics and achieve results.
If you are a Liberal member in this riding, I hope I can count on your support. If you have time to volunteer any time until or on the nomination date, please let me know. If you are still undecided, please contact me at any time. Together, we really can make a difference!
